The
FUNdamentals of Humor, Laughter, and Play in Education Workshop
with Dr. Ken Snyder
TEACHERS CAN USE HUMOR,
LAUGHTER, AND PLAY TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' LEARNING ABILITIES
While humor, laughter, and play are conducive to many physical and
psychological benefits, current research is proving that they also have a
positive impact on one's learning abilities. For one thing, humor,
laughter, and play have been shown to help kids feel better about
themselves. Consequently, students will actually learn more by accident in
an environment where they feel good than on purpose in an environment where
they don't.
Moreover, Dr. Snyder points out, 'The majority of us, students and
adults alike, spend the day in a passive state of mind. That is, we drive,
read books, and sit in the classroom while we're half-focused on a million
other things." Humor, laughter, and play are powerful tools for shifting
students out of their passive minds and into their active minds.
Workshop participants will learn how to use humor, laughter, and play
to: stimulate their students intellectually and emotionally so learning can
take place; increase learning retention; boost students' self-esteem;
diffuse stressful situations in the classroom; and more. Teachers will
also learn simple yet effective techniques and strategies for using humor,
laughter, and play in their personal and professional lives.
